RadiantGrid™ Platform

Media Transformation

Transcoding solutions are rapidly becoming a commodity, and it is in the area of media transformation where RadiantGrid differentiates itself. Customer requirements are growing beyond file-to-file transcoding, and blossoming into the areas of track-based media assembly and composition, frame-accurate video and audio mixing, and track-based video and audio effects like dissolves, cuts and fades. For the first time, capabilities previously seen only in non-linear editing systems are now possible at transcode time.

RadiantGrid provides the ability to build media transformation templates, which are applied to incoming content, and render a finished, composited, mixed output file without taking up the valuable time of an video editing station. Media composition works seamlessly within our distributed architecture and capacity scales as you expand your compute resources.

Benefits

The RadiantGrid Platform supports an adaptive transcoding model, where transcoding settings can adapt to the incoming source media, and inherit parameters such as frame rate, audio sample rate, audio bitrate, etc.

More importantly, transcoding settings can adapt to the incoming aspect ratio, and assign frame size and crop region to the transcoding engine based on the incoming media source. For example, a single transcoding setting can be developed which generates a 400×300 H.264 output file from content with a 4:3 aspect ratio, but which also generates a 400×226 H.264 output file from content with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Or, if the customer knows all 4:3 content will be letterboxed, the transcoding setting can automatically assign a crop region to 4:3 content to strip off letterboxing and generate 16:9 output, but also pass through 16:9 sources without cropping. This makes our templated transcoding model that much more efficient because the same settings can be used for a wider range of incoming source media.
