RadiantGrid provides closed caption management that supports our goal of content globalization. Media sources may contain closed captioning in a variety of formats: SMPTE 360M within VANC data in a GXF container, ATSC EIA-608 within user data in an MPEG-2 program stream, ATSC EIA-608 within VANC data in an MPEG-2 transport stream, bitmapped VBI data in the visible video stream, or SAMI in a textual format, as some examples.
Our closed caption management system provides both the capability to extract closed captioning from media sources, and to insert closed captioning back into the transcoded output file.
RadiantGrid has the capability to convert EIA-608 captions to EIA-708 captions, in software, which is especially useful for generating CableLabs 1.1 HD formats.
In addition, the RadiantGrid Platform can extract closed captioning into textual file formats, such as SAMI, which can be repurposed by other media publishing applications and media players.
